Celebrities? Check. A celebrity who died tragically? Check. Figurines of that celebrity? Check. English royalty? Check. A billionaire couple? Check. A big law firm accused of being too aggressive? Check. A large oil painting portraying said firm’s lawyers being too aggressive? Well, sorry, can’t help you there.
The American Lawyer has a nice writeup of all the details of the wacky case and its settlement, which was announced on Thursday. The bottom line: the law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips will pay Stewart and Lynda Resnick (pictured), the billionaire couple behind the POM Wonderful pomegranate drink, $25 million to settle claims that the firm “maliciously prosecuted” a case against an entity the Resnicks used to own.
